Tanzania is slowly and sreadily building another genre of music that over the years has been ignored and seen as low-life street music.
Singeli is the name of this breathe taking and energy draining song that will always get everyone shaking what their mama gave them on the dance floor and most at times the dance floor is always full of dust and chaos. They call it “disco vumbi”.
Disco vumbi gave platform to singeli when the likes of Sholo Mwamba, Man Fongo and Msaga Sumu held on to it tight while it was still underground. It isn’t as underground now as you might expect. In Tanzania, singeli has become mainstream, like music by Drake or Kendrick Lamar.
