Police have launched a manhunt for Presidential aspirant Mukhisa Kituyi who was accused of assaulting a lady at a posh hotel in Mombasa.
Coast Region Police Commander Paul Ndambuki, on Monday, June 14, stated that detectives were tracking Kituyi’s whereabouts after he failed to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to record a statement.
“He seems to be elusive and the next course of action is to send detectives from where the complaint was lodged .

“The sleuths will liaise with detectives in Nairobi or any other location where he will be found to enable us to record his statement and prefer relevant charges against him,” Ndambuki stated.
Inspector-General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, had ordered the Coast police boss to launch a formal inquiry into the allegations fronted against Kituyi.
The IG detailed that there were contradicting reports, one stating that the case had been solved amicably and withdrawn. However, police insisted that the victim, Diana Opemi Lutta, was willing to proceed with the case.
Insiders privy to the case stated that Kituyi reportedly reached out to the woman and asked to solve the case out of court.
The prosecution disclosed that it had lined up four eyewitnesses to testify against Kituyi including two guards and the hotel staff.

“Detectives have already recorded statements of four other witnesses who saw what transpired,” Ndambuki pointed out.
Kituyi, the former Secretary-General for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), however, rejected assaulting the woman.
“Someone had written a report claiming I had assaulted her but it was not true. I’ve never beaten any woman in my life nor do I intend to ever do it at any given time. We sorted out the case and it was withdrawn,” Kituyi’s public statement read.
