Our digital world allows us to find partners through apps like Bumble, Christian Mingle, Farmers Only, and Tinder, to name a few. Some people find love, others find friendship and there are those who get scammed. We aren’t talking about “I need to borrow a little money because I’m short of rent”. We’re talking about being taken for millions!
The latest scandal-based documentary on Netflix, The Tindler Swindler, is about how Israeli con-artist Shimon Hayut AKA Simon Leviev misrepresented himself as the son of an Israeli multi-millionaire and defrauded European women he met on Tinder. He lead them to believe that he was working in a dangerous business and was always traveling for work, hence starting long-distance relationships with them. These women would take out loans, send credit cards and even gave him suitcases of cash.
The story, while horrifying, brought out hilarious responses from people online and we couldn’t help but collect a few.
