Body of 3-year-old boy mauled by crocodile retrieved from Lake Victoria

The body of the 3-year-old boy who was mauled by a crocodile at Ralayo beach in Rarieda, Siaya County, on Saturday has finally been retrieved from the waters of Lake Victoria.
The body was recovered from the lake after more than 24 hours of searching by the local fishermen.

Vice Chairman of Ralayo Beach Management Unit Peter Okeyo told Radio Ramogi that the boy’s body was found intact save for a few bruises.

The body was later taken to Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Fishermen at Ralayo Beach have in the meantime decried the rampant cases of crocodile attacks in the region and pleaded with the government to find a way of containing the situation.

They now want the waters of the lakeshore to be secured.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo who visited the scene noted the need for intervention to end the rampant attacks by not only crocodiles but also hippopotamuses.

Amolo promised to petition the government through the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to secure all the 31 beaches in Rarieda sub-county by fencing off the areas locals use.
