All Bars To Be Shut Down In Kisumu On Election Day – Abala Wanga

All bars, nightclubs and entertainment joints in Kisumu County will cease operations midnight on August 8, 2022 to allow residents to prepare for the General Election.

Kisumu County’s City Manager Abala Wanga made the announcement on Thursday citing that the establishments will only resume operations from 5 pm on August 9, after conclusion of the voting exercise.

Other businesses, such as eateries, restaurants, malls and markets, Wanga said, will not be exempted from the directive that seeks to mobilise voters in the region to take to the ballot.

“On August 9, the whole county’s business activities will be closed until the time that voting ends. So as early as midnight of August 8, all bars and activities of any kind will be closed,” Wanga told Citizen Digital.

“I will issue a circular on the same as soon as possible under powers vested upon me as a city manager under the Urban Areas Act.”

According to Wanga, bodaboda and matatu operators in the county will not be bound to conform to the directive.

“The only people we will leave are the bodaboda and matatus that will ferry people to the polling centres. This will allow free movement of voters on August 9 in terms of mobilisation of voters within the city without much disruption,” he said.
